Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks, the mother of the Civil Rights Movement,  On December 1, 1955, the equality activist refused to give up her bus seat to... a white passenger, resulting in her arrest. Parks became a symbol of resistance, and her act of civil disobedience would spur a citywide bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama that would end segregation on public buses. The 381-day boycott is regarded as one of the most effective mass movements against racial segregation in history.
