the first part of her life in China, as the daughter of missionaries. When she returned to the US, she continued writing and became involved in the fight for the rights of women and minorities. Particularly horrified that adoption services did not consider Asian and mixed-race children adoptable, she co-founded the Welcome House Adoption Program - the first international, interracial adoption agency. Buck passed away#OnThisDay in 1973.
