Health Resources
Types of Support Resources
Trauma-Informed Counseling: Traditional therapy can sometimes miss the nuances of abuse. Trauma-informed therapists specifically understand the psychological impacts of coercive control, gaslighting, and survival responses (like fight, flight, freeze, or fawn).
Support Groups & Peer Advocacy: Connecting with other survivors reduces the intense isolation that abuse causes. Peer-led groups offer a safe space where women validate each other's experiences without judgment.
Crisis & Safety Wellness Planning: Emotional wellness is closely tied to physical safety. Many mental health resources for domestic violence include creating a "safety plan"—a structured way to remain safe while in a relationship, planning to leave, or after leaving.
Culturally Specific Mental Health Support: Many organizations specialize in providing healing spaces tailored to specific communities (e.g., Black, Indigenous, Latina, or LGBTQ+ communities) to ensure cultural nuances and barriers are deeply understood.
